It is a Spanish variety which origin is, probably, the germination of a Common lemon speed cultivated closed to the Segura river area. It is the most important and the most immature variety in Spain.

The tree flowers intensely once a year, usually between the first 10 days of April and the beginning of May (later than the Verna lemon tree flowering period and for a shorter period). Even though there is a second flowering period in summer (named rodrejos, late lemon), but it is a limited crop with fruits more thickset that those of the normal harvest.
The fruit size is medium, spherical or oval, with a smooth and fine rind. There is a lack of neck at the peduncular area and its apical mamelon is sharp and small.

The pulp has a yellow pale colour, it is very juicy, with a high productivity in juice and a high acidity, which makes this variety, was very appreciated for the citrus industry. The number of sections varies between 8 and 12.


Its origin could be Spanish but it is still unknown, probably it comes from the introduction of the Italian lemon, type Monachello, into the huerta area of Murcia. It is the second most important variety in Spain (after the Primofiori) and filthy of the world. Its production represents 20% and, it is mainly cultivated in Alicante and Murcia.

This lemon tree is able to flower more than once a year and it has two mainly flowering periods. The main one gives the called fruits harvested; it takes a long period, from March to May, depending on the weather, the localization and physiologic condition of the trees.

In August and September takes place another flowering period, which fruits are called rodrejos or verdelli.  They are collected the next year in summer. These fruits have a smother and finer rind than the harvested ones, as well as being more rounded and with a green pale colour.

Inside, its pulp is tender and juicy; it has an important deal of juice, with a low acidy level. Its number of sections varies between eight and nine.


The variety Eureka is the most cultivated outside the Mediterranean area. It was obtained in California in 1858 and its mainly producers are California, Australia, South Africa, Argentina and Israel.

The fruits have a medium size, an elliptic or oblong form, sometimes ovoid.

Generally, they present a small neck in the peduncular zone and also an apical mamelon usually surrounded by a round wrinkle.  

The rind has a medium or fine thickness, usually smooth, although it could have some wrinkles especially in Mediterranean weathers.

This lemon has an excellent juicy pulp with a high acidity level.
